Interested Parties Meeting to Discuss Sanitary Sewer Evaluations on Tuesday, November 10

COLUMBIA, MO (November 2, 2015) - The City of Columbia has retained the services of TREKK Design Group (TREKK) to conduct a sewer evaluation survey in several Columbia neighborhoods. Excess stormwater and groundwater entering the sanitary sewer system (also known as Inflow and Infiltration or I&I) during wet weather periods contribute to basement flooding and sewer back-ups during and after the periods of heavy rainfall.  This study is an inspection of the sanitary sewer system to identify defects which the city will work toward correcting to reduce basement flooding and sanitary sewer back-ups.

The planned sanitary sewer evaluation area is noted as area 1 with a blue outline on the attached map. All property owners in the first area to be evaluated have been mailed letters. Future notices and meetings for the remaining 4 study areas will be announced in the near future.

To initiate the planned sewer evaluation survey and help residents understand what they can expect, the City along with TREKK will be hosting an open house style Interested Parties meeting on November 10 from 5:30-7:00 PM in the Historic Daniel Boone Lobby of City Hall at 701 E. Broadway.   Please plan on attending to learn about the different project aspects and how they will affect the homes in the study area. At the meeting residents in the first study area can also schedule their free sewer evaluation with a TREKK representative. Again, meetings for the remaining study areas will be announced in the near future.

A sewer evaluation is required to provide accurate information on sewer capacity requirements,  as well as information on any past flooding or sewer back-up problems. The survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes, consists of an inside and outside survey performed by TREKK.  The inspectors will be wearing  an orange shirt with  the TREKK  emblem and will  carry photo  identification.
