City of Columbia Snow Policies
COLUMBIA, MO (November 17, 2015) - On Wednesday, November 18, the city of Columbia Street Division, in conjunction with Missouri Winter Weather Day, will participate by having equipment operators practice dry runs on the priority routes and through neighborhoods.
With a hint of some snow mixed in with rain this coming weekend in the overnight hours, we wanted to remind our customers of the snow policies adopted by the city of Columbia.
Snow and Ice Management -
For snow events with less than 4 inches of snow:
City crews will plow and treat first and second priority streets to a passable condition, utilizing overtime if necessary.Crews will plow and treat residential streets to a passable condition during regular working hours only (M-F 8-5)
For snow events with more than 4 inches of snow:
City crews will plow and treat first and second priority streets to a passable condition, utilizing overtime if necessary, and then;Crews will plow and treat residential streets to a passable condition utilizing overtime if necessary.
The City of Columbia defines streets as passable, that although the road may still be snow packed, at least one travel lane is accessible for a front wheel drive vehicle at speeds and driving conditions below the normal posted speed limits. Your vehicles condition and your driving skills also determine your ability to navigate roads defined as passable.
Priority Snow Routes - Parking Prohibited
For snow events with 2 inches or more of snow:
Whenever snow accumulates more than 2 inches on the roadway, any vehicle parked on a designated snow route must be moved off of the roadway immediately per city ordinance 14-304. By removing vehicles from priority snow routes, our plows are able to quickly and efficiently clear priority roads for improved public safety responses and move into residential areas when conditions warrant. Please help us clear roads quicker by moving your vehicle during snowfalls greater than 2 inches. The fine for failure to move a vehicle from a priority snow route is $100 plus towing and storage charges. A list of priority streets and maps are available on our website at COMOSNOW.com
