Fire Damages structure in south Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (October 29, 2015) - At 11:38 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire at 4130 Lenoir Street. Several 9-1-1 callers from Highwary 63, reported seeing flames coming from a mobile home.

Columbia Firefighters arrived at 11:46 a.m. to find the structure fully involved.  There were several other mobile homes nearby that were not damaged.  Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire; however, the mobile home was completely destroyed.  There is no dollar loss estimate.

The mobile homes in the park had all been vacated prior to this incident.  There were no utilities to the structure. The fire is currently being investigated.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
