Texas Avenue from Jackson to Bettina closed for water project

COLUMBIA, MO (September 11, 2015) - On Tuesday, September 15 Columbia Water & Light will be connecting a new water line on Texas Avenue to the existing water distribution system. This will require the closing of Texas Avenue between Jackson Street and Bettina Drive. Local traffic will still have access to the street but all other motorists will be detoured. Weather permitting, this section of Texas Avenue should be opened by the end of the day. Customers will be individually notified of any water service disruptions.

The water main on Texas Avenue was approaching the end of its useful life and has been experiencing breaks. The existing pipe is being replaced with an 8-inch and twelve-inch water main. The upgraded water line will increase the amount of water that can be delivered to the area for consumers and for firefighting purposes. It will also increase the reliability of water service in the area. The water project is expected to be finished in the fall.
