Rain barrel and composter sales begin April 1

COLUMBIA, MO (April 1, 2016) - With spring showers popping up, capture the rainwater coming off of your roof and repurpose it on your flowers and garden plants with a rain barrel. Backyard compost bins are a new addition this year.

The City of Columbia Public Works Department Stormwater Utility, in cooperation with Boone County and the University of Missouri, is again partnering with Rain Water Solutions to provide our customers the opportunity to purchase a complete rain barrel kit at a greatly reduced price.

These kits are made in America out of 50 percent recycled materials. This year, two sizes are available. The Ivy for $65 which includes a 50 gallon rain barrel, a pre-plumbed quarter turn spigot to attach your garden hose and overflow tubing. The Moby is $110 and includes a 65 gallon rain barrel, a pre-plumbed brass spigot to attach your garden hose and overflow tubing. A diverter kit is not required for installation and you can connect multiple rain barrels together to increase storage. Should you desire to use a diverter, kits are available during online ordering for $10. New this year are backyard compost bin which are 65 gallons at a special of $65.

You can see the product displayed in the main lobby of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway.
