Volunteers will "Cleanup Columbia" this Saturday

COLUMBIA, MO (April 4, 2016) - The City of Columbia’s Volunteer Programs reports that more than 1,300 volunteers representing 113 groups have registered to participate in this Saturday’s Cleanup Columbia event. This is the twentieth annual city-wide trash pickup event.

Volunteers will be along Columbia streets and trails, in our streams and in our parks Saturday morning picking up litter. Each group sets their own start time for cleanup.

There is still time for residents to get involved by volunteering.  Those interested in participating can and pick up supplies and will be assigned a cleanup location Wednesday at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. or at Rock Quarry House, 2002 Grindstone Parkway on Thursday from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m.–5 p.m. or Saturday from 7:30-10:00 a.m.

The public is encouraged to use caution while driving in Columbia on Saturday morning as volunteers may be working near roadways.

Cleanup Columbia is sponsored by 102.3 BXR, KFRU AM 1400, KOMU TV 8, the Mid-Missouri CW, the Columbia Daily Tribune, Landmark Bank and Sonshine Graphics.  Columbia Utilities – Solid Waste and Columbia Parks & Recreation also provide in-kind support.

To learn more about Cleanup Columbia, contact Volunteer Programs at 874-7499 or visit the city’s website at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.

The media is invited to visit volunteers Saturday morning during the cleanup. A list of participating groups, their locations and additional details can be found on the Volunteer Programs webpage at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
