Fair Housing and Lending Seminar scheduled for Friday, April 8
COLUMBIA, MO (April 6, 2016) - The City of Columbia and its Human Rights Commission will host the City's Annual Fair Housing and Lending Seminar on Friday, April 8 in City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. This free event is open to the public with registration beginning at 8:15 a.m., the event will wrap up around 1 p.m.
University of Missouri School of Law Associate Professor Rigel Oliveri will speak about fair housing laws and service animals. Missouri Commission on Human Rights Director of Investigative Operations Eric Krekel will address the Missouri Commission on Human Rights complaint process, Missouri fair housing laws, and best practice tips for fair housing and lending. City of Columbia Housing Programs Supervisor Randall Cole will speak about affordable housing. Research associates Jillian Olinger and Kelly Capatosto from the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio State University will discuss implicit bias and its impact on fair housing and lending.
The event will also include a programs fair which will allow participants to meet with representatives of different housing, neighborhood, energy efficiency and sustainability programs.
