City to Hold Events in Two Strategic Plan Neighborhoods this Week
COLUMBIA, MO (April 19, 2016) - City of Columbia employees and neighborhood residents will work side-by-side this week to improve the appearance of two areas in north and east Columbia. The clean-up and partnership events are consistent with goals identified in the City’s 2016 - 2019 Strategic Plan.
Operation Clean Streets will be held Friday, April 22 in the Indian Hills Neighborhood. City staff and volunteers will be working in the neighborhood to clean street curbs and sidewalks, pick up litter along streets and paint, clear vegetation and remove litter in the park. Residents are invited to help. Staff and volunteers will meet at the Indian Hills Park shelter, 5009 Aztec Boulevard at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided to those volunteering on the project.
In conjunction with Operation Clean Streets, the Office of Neighborhood Services had placed dumpsters for resident use near Indian Hills Park and McKee Park that will be available until noon on Friday.
On Saturday, April 23, City staff will be working with residents on a neighborhood cleanup in the Auburn Hills Neighborhood starting at 10 a.m. Residents and community volunteers who want to participate should meet on Edenton Drive near the Bodie Drive intersection. This event is a partnership between the Auburn Hills Homeowner’s Association, the Columbia Police Department, the Office of Neighborhood Services, Karis Church and Love, INC.
“In our strategic plan, we specifically identified three areas where we believe we can work with residents to help their families and neighborhoods thrive,” said City Manager Mike Matthes.
“A clean appearance is just one part of feeling good about where you live. If you know and trust your neighbors and your City employees, you might feel more connected to your community,” Matthes said.
Columbia residents interested in volunteering on either day should contact the Office of Neighborhood Services at 817-5050.
