Dedication Planned for Grindstone Creek Trail 

COLUMBIA, MO (April 27, 2016) - Columbia Parks and Recreation is planning a dedication of the new Grindstone Creek Trail. It will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on April 28, with the program beginning at 5:45 p.m.

 

The site of the ceremony will be on the trail, near the Grindstone Nature Area, 2011 Old Highway 63 S. Parking will be available nearby at Hillcrest Community Center, 1907 Hillcrest Drive. Shuttles will take attendees to the dedication. Attendees are encouraged to ride their bikes to the dedication. Bike racks will be available at the dedication site.

 

The parking lot at Grindstone Nature Area will be closed for the dedication from 12-8 p.m. on April 28. Park and trail users not attending the ceremony are encouraged to use the Capen Park parking lot for access to the Hinkson Creek Trail.

 

The dedication will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tree giveaway, guided trail walk and light refreshments.

 

The Grindstone Creek Trail is the newest addition to the Columbia Trail System. The 1.75-mile concrete trail begins at the Grindstone Nature Area and generally follows the Grindstone Creek, then angles north to Maguire Boulevard.

 

Funding for the Grindstone Creek Trail came from the voter-approved 2010 Park Sales Tax and a contribution from the Missouri Department of Conservation.
