[Update] Part of Eighth Street scheduled to be one-way traffic Aug. 11-20
COLUMBIA, MO (August 8, 2016) - UPDATE DETAILS:. Eighth Street is scheduled to become a one-way road again between Walnut and Broadway on Aug.11 until approximately Aug. 20. Traffic will be allowed southbound only. This is necessary to allow for the work at the southwest corner of Walnut and Eighth. The 30 days originally announced needed to be split up due to sequencing with the brick crosswalks and maintaining pedestrian access. The 30 days indicated in the press release of July 1, 2016, refers to days affected and does not necessary mean the days will be consecutive.
Previous Press Release:
Part of Eighth Street scheduled to be one-way traffic for 30 days
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced on Friday that Eighth Street, between Walnut and Broadway, will be restricted to one-way traffic, southbound only, for an estimated maximum of 30 days. Access to the Plaza Parking Garage and alley behind City Hall, as well as the Landmark Bank parking area, will remain open.
"The one-way traffic is necessary to maintain a safe work environment for workers and motorists on this project," said Capital Improvement Project Supervisor Dave Fennewald.
City workers plan to replace the sidewalk, remove the canopy from the parking garage along Eighth Street, and add tree grates, tree well drainage and new crosswalks at Walnut Street.
This work is being performed as part of the Avenue of the Columns Project.
