Milling planned for Orr Street, Stewart Road Aug. 12, overlay Aug. 15

COLUMBIA, MO (August 11, 2016) - The Public Works Department announced on Thursday that Capital Paving, a subcontractor for the City of Columbia, plans to perform milling operations on  Orr Street and Stewart Road Aug. 12 and then asphalt overlay the streets on Aug. 15, weather permitting. Orr Street will be improved from Park Avenue to Walnut Street. Stewart Road will be improved from Glenwood Avenue to Garth Avenue.

Motorists and nonmotorized transportation users should expect temporary lane closures while milling is being performed on Aug. 12. Flaggers will be on hand to allow through traffic. Traffic is permitted on the road once it is milled, no detours are necessary.

Contractor crews plan to return and perform an asphalt overlay on the same section of the road on Aug. 15, weather permitting. Motorists and nonmotorized transportation users should expect temporary lane closures while the work is being performed. Flaggers will be on hand to allow through traffic. Once the street is overlaid, traffic may drive on the asphalt almost immediately.

Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users should use caution in the work zones to protect themselves and the safety of workers.
