Closed section of Scott Boulevard to open Aug. 22 to local traffic, final section to close until mid to late fall

COLUMBIA, MO (August 12, 2016) - Beginning about 6 a.m. on Aug. 22, 2016, Scott Boulevard between Vawter School Road and Sawgrass Drive/Stone Grove Court is scheduled to open to local traffic.

Once that happens, the final section of the current Scott Boulevard Project, between Sawgrass Drive/Stone Grove Court and Leighton Drive, is scheduled to close. This includes the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Thornebrook Ridge. This section is scheduled to reopen in mid to late fall, weather permitting.

"The Scott Boulevard Project is progressing forward on schedule despite the recent rainfall and muddy conditions on site," said Public Works Construction Supervisor David Fennewald.

Local residents on Sawgrass Drive and Stone Grove Court will need to access their homes from the north. Leighton residents will continue to access from the south.  Southbound motorists and nonmotorized transportation users, such as those needing to access Beulah Ralph Elementary, can continue to use the Old Mill Creek Road detour from Vawter School Road to Route KK.

"We've been in contact with Columbia Public Schools so that they can adjust their bus routes if necessary," said Fennewald.

Emery Sapp and Sons, the contractor for the Scott Boulevard project, plans to continue working on the section of Scott Boulevard that is opening, so construction activity will still be taking place along the roadway.  Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to use caution while in the construction zone.

"While there are still some finishing touches to be done along the section between Vawter School Road and Sawgrass/Stone Grove, there is no reason not to go ahead and open it up to local traffic," said Fennewald.
