Interest Parties Meeting - Sanitary Sewer Study for Inflow and Infiltration Reduction

COLUMBIA, MO (February 2, 2016) - The City of Columbia and our partners TREKK Design Group, will be hosting an open house style interested parties meeting Feb. 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in conference room 1B of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. Please plan on attending to learn about the different project aspects and how they will affect the homes in the study area. At the meeting residents in the study area can also schedule their free sewer evaluation with a TREKK representative.

The next study area is bounded roughly by Overhill Rd and Fairmont on the south, Fairvew Rd on the west, Summit Rd on the north, and Stadium Blvd on the east. A map of the proposed study area is attached. Residents in the area bounded by the red lines labeled as "5" are encouraged to attend. (Map attached to this release)

The City of Columbia has retained the services of TREKK Design Group (TREKK) to conduct a sewer evaluation survey in several Columbia neighborhoods. Excess stormwater and groundwater entering the sanitary sewer system (also known as Inflow and Infiltration or I&I) during wet weather periods contribute to basement flooding and sewer backups during and after the periods of heavy rainfall.  This study is an inspection of the sanitary sewer system to identify defects which the city will work toward correcting to reduce basement flooding and sanitary sewer backups.

A sewer evaluation is required to provide accurate information on sewer capacity requirements, as well as information on any past flooding or sewer backup problems. The survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes, consists of an inside and outside survey performed by TREKK.  The inspectors will be wearing an orange shirt with the TREKK emblem and will carry photo identification.

The City of Columbia is working to evaluate and reduce I&I issues in a number of areas of Columbia.
