City, Voluntary Action Center and Downtown Optimist Club will distribute computers Saturday

COLUMBIA, MO (February 18, 2016) - This Saturday, 40 City of Columbia used computers will find new homes in Columbia households. The City, Voluntary Action Center (VAC) and the Downtown Optimist Club partner each year to provide surplus (used) computers and equipment to eligible VAC clients as part of the Homes For Computers Program. The used computers are being given away to clients enrolled in VAC programs who applied and were found eligible for the computer giveaway.

Clients who applied and were found eligible will be contacted by VAC and will receive their computer Saturday, Feb. 20. Computers will be distributed by the Downtown Optimist Club from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Downtown Optimist Club Building, 1201 Grand Ave. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department will also provide training on internet safety during the distribution.

The Homes for Computers Program was approved by City Council in December 2003. This year’s program will bring the number of donated computers to 453.
