Suspicious Incident Call Leads to Two Burglars Arrested

COLUMBIA, MO (February 18, 2016) - SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT CALL LEADS TO TWO BURGLARS ARRESTED

 

On 2/17/16 at 6:55 A.M., officers were dispatched to a suspicious person in the 1100 block of La Rail Drive. The complainant heard a noise coming from the back deck of the residence and saw a white male. The white male took off running from the deck and did not make entry into the house.

 Officers arrived on scene and observed two white males in the 1100 block of La Rail Drive.  An officer attempted to make contact with the two males but the males ran from the officer.  An officer saw one of the males in the back yard of a residence in the 1100 block of Northshore Drive. A Boone County Sheriff’s Department K9 unit assisted the Columbia Police Department with a track of the suspects.  The track lead to the back of this residence in the 1100 block of Northshore Drive.  Officers made contact with the resident and it was later determined the two male suspects were inside the residence.

 Austin Cash and Mathew Curry were transported to the Columbia Police Department for further investigation.  A search warrant was served at 1108 Northshore Drive which led to the recovery of the evidence of the burglaries.

 Officers checked the area and found two residences on La Rail Drive had been burglarized and a theft from a motor vehicle occurred in the 1100 block of Northshore Drive.   In one burglary, officers determined suspects had forced entry into a residence in the 1100 block of La Rail Drive and stole property while the residents were home.  

In the other burglary, also located in the 1100 block of La Rail Drive, the suspects entered an open garage and stole items from a vehicle while the residents were home.

In the theft from motor vehicle, a passenger car was parked in the driveway in the 1100 block of Northshore Drive. Contents of the vehicle were tampered with and items were stolen.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigative Division interviewed both Cash and Curry who admitted their involvement in the burglaries and theft from motor vehicle.

Officers arrested Austin Cash, age 18, from Columbia for the following:  Burglary in the First Degree with a to be set bond, Property Damage in the First Degree with a bond of $4,500.00, Resisting or Interfering with an Arrest with a bond of $500.00, Stealing Felony with a bond of $4,500.00, Stealing Misdemeanor with a bond of $500.00, Trespass in the First Degree with a bond of $500.00, Burglary in the First Degree with a to be set bond, and Stealing Misdemeanor with a bond of $500.00.

 Officers arrested Mathew G. Curry, age 18, from Columbia for the following: Burglary in the First Degree with a to be set bond, Property Damage in the First Degree with a bond of $4,500.00, Resisting or Interfering with an Arrest with a bond of $500.00, Stealing Felony with a bond of $4,500.00, Stealing Misdemeanor with a bond of $500.00, Burglary in the First Degree with a to bet set bond, and Stealing Misdemeanor with a bond of $500.00.
