Public Hearing Reopens Discussion on Transmission Line Routes

COLUMBIA, MO (January 11, 2016) -

Columbia Water & Light Urges People to Attend

Who: Residents concerned about electric reliability in Columbia

What: A special, second public hearing is being held for The Columbia Electric Transmission Line Project. The discussion on route options for transmission lines in the southern part of Columbia will be reopened.

When: 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016

Where: Columbia City Council Chambers, City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO

Why: Area residents recently raised concerns about the approved route (known as Option A). The City Council decided to reconsider the previously reviewed routes, including Option B and B-2.

The City of Columbia must meet federal reliability guidelines and mandates. The existing transmission system needs additional electrical transmission capacity to reliably deliver electricity to Columbians now and in the future.

Columbia Water & Light customers, those who own or work on property near one of the routes being reconsidered for the new transmission line, or those who have inquired about The Columbia Electric Transmission Line Project are urged to attend or pass their comments along to the City Council.

While there is a growing demand for electricity in southern Columbia, it is important to note that the electrical grid for the city works as an integrated system that manages and carries electricity to customers throughout the entire community. Due to this project being paid by Columbia Water & Light electric customers, it is important that the opinions of the customers be heard. Some of the money spent on this project so far could be recovered but changing route options could result in budget changes.
