Public Works crews treating priority routes
COLUMBIA, MO (January 19, 2016) - With the first inch of snow accumulated on roadways, a full Public Works crew is still out salting and plowing priority routes and trouble areas. Snow is expected start again between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. and continue through this evening until about midnight. Snow this evening will be moderate to heavy at times with total accumulations reaching between 2-4 inches.
Widespread slickness is predicted across town so customers are encouraged to use extreme caution when traveling. The heaviest snowfall is expected to be during the evening rush hour and schools and other organizations have already begun to cancel events. As the snow may accumulate quickly and road conditions deteriorate, we recommend travelers make prudent decisions on afternoon travel, especially during peak travel times.
If snow accumulations reach 2 inches, parking enforcement will go into effect on first and second priority routes and customers are asked to move parked vehicles off the roadways along these marked areas. A map of priority routes is available at www.ComoSnow.com, and customers can also sign up for automatic text alerts on the website for when parking restrictions go into effect. Public Works greatly appreciates the cooperation of customers in moving their vehicles as it allows plows to move through areas more efficiently and keep up with the ongoing snow.
A full crew will be on duty overnight tonight to continue treating priority routes and maintaining passable conditions. If snow accumulation reaches 4 inches overnight, crews will begin working on neighborhood areas as well; otherwise, neighborhood areas will be treated during normal business hours after priority routes are passable.
