Hazardous Material Incident (Douglass Park & Pool)
COLUMBIA, MO (June 3, 2016) - On Friday, 06/03/16 at 11:45 a.m. Columbia Fire Crews were dispatched to 400 North Providence Road (Douglass Pool) for a reported chemical reaction. Further information, the chemical reaction occurred in the chemical room for the pool.
Fire crews arrived on the scene at 11:54 a.m. and met with a representative of the Hawkins water treatment group. They advised fire crews that a small amount of Hydrochloric Acid had accidentally mixed with Sodium Hypochlorite in a tank and produced a small vapor cloud. The works immediately shut-off the valve to the tank.
Fire crews were able to identify the chemicals and quickly mitigated the chemical reaction. No injuries were reported.
Mark Kottwitz, a Park & Rec representative stated Douglass Pool will open at 11:00 a.m. on June 4th.
