Dedication Planned for Strawn Park

COLUMBIA, MO (June 16, 2016) - Columbia Parks and Recreation is planning a dedication of Strawn Park, 801 N. Strawn Road. It will be held from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, with the program beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Strawn Park is the home of the new Harmony Bends Championship Disc Golf Course.  Harmony Bends was designed by premier disc golf course designer John Houck, who is known around the world for his contributions to disc golf. Houck and associate Dee Leekha will be at the park dedication and will be available to answer questions about the course.

On his web site www.houckdesign.com, Houck described the course and said, “I do predict that, when it’s done, there will be a good number of players naming Strawn as their favorite course anywhere.”

The dedication will feature refreshments, remarks and a ceremonial “first toss” of a golf disc. Local disc golf professional George Smith will offer a short demonstration at the first hole of the new course.

Those attending the dedication who would like to walk some of the course should wear comfortable shoes.

Following the dedication, Harmony Bends will officially open with the Mid-America Open Disc Golf Tournament, which will begin on June 24.

Funding for Strawn Park came from the 2010 Park Sales Tax and a donation from the Convention and Visitors Bureau Tourism Development fund.
