Fire Damages duplex southwest Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO (June 20, 2016) - At 2:11 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported commercial structure fire at 1311 Scott Boulevard. 

Columbia Firefighters arrived at 2:15 a.m. to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the structure. Crews conducted an aggressive attack and the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of arrival. 

There are no reported injuries, however four occupants are receiving housing assistance from the Red Cross. Both sides of the duplex have been displaced.

The cause of the fire was determined to be a smoker on the rear deck.  Damage estimates are $100,000.

Three engines, a ladder, and a rescue squad responded to the incident.  Fire units are still on the scene.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries atleast once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
