Commercial Structure Fire at Wood Hall

COLUMBIA, MO (March 5, 2016) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at 5 College Avenue South, Wood Hall, Stephens College, on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

Units arrived on the scene less than five minutes later and found heavy smoke and water coming from a sprinkler system on the fifth floor.  The officer in charge upgraded the call to a commercial structure fire resulting in the dispatch of additional fire crews and equipment.

Further investigation revealed a fire originating in apartment 514 activated the buildings sprinkler system.  The sprinkler contained the fire to the apartment and fully extinguished it.  Significant water damage was noted in adjacent apartments on the fifth floor.

Assistant Fire Marshal's are on the scene investigating the origin and cause of the fire.  No damage estimate or cause of the fire has been determined at this time.

Six units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this event.  There were no reported injuries.
