‘Youth In Action’ Volunteer Program Returns this Summer
COLUMBIA, MO (May 16, 2016) - School is coming to an end and summer is just around the corner. Youth are deciding how to spend their summer months away from school. Youth in Action is an exciting way for young people age 12-15 to transfer their time and energy from classroom to community.
Volunteering is not only a great way to build character but will also serve as an outlet to make new friends and learn new skills! The program includes a variety of supervised and structured volunteer activities with organizations throughout Columbia.
The City of Columbia’s Volunteer Programs will be hosting two informational open-house sessions about the Youth In Action 2016 summer program.
*The first will be Wednesday, May18, 4-7 p.m., at the ARC, 1701 W. Ash.
*The second will be Thursday, May 26, 4-7 p.m. at City Hall in
Conference Room 1C.
These sessions are open-house style, during which interested youth and their parents or guardians may attend and sign up for volunteer activities. Participants choose the opportunities in which they would like to volunteer.
Scheduled projects include helping at Splat! Mud Obstacle Course, Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture, The Voluntary Action Center, and Cedar Creek Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center.
For more information regarding the program, contact Sarah Cooksey, 2016 Youth In Action Intern, at (314) 740-6517, or sarah.cooksey at CoMo.gov. More information on the program, including an application and a list of summer activities, can be found on the City’s website at CoMo.gov and search “Volunteer.”
