Chief Announces Promotion

COLUMBIA, MO (November 23, 2016) -                                                    Chief Announces Promotion

On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, Chief Burton announces the Promotion of an additional Deputy Chief.

Assistant Chief of the Operations Bureau (Patrol) John Gordon has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief.  Gordon has been with the department for 16 years. He was hired by the Columbia Police Department as a patrol officer in 2000. During his time on Patrol, Gordon was a Field Training Officer for four years, member of the Firearms Committee, Forms Committee, Strategic Planning and Policies Group. As an officer, he developed a department wide recycling program and was involved in drafting the McDuffy Report reference a TASER usage. Gordon was promoted to Sergeant in 2008.  As a Sergeant, Gordon drafted policy and is currently an instructor in numerous disciplines, mainly force related. Gordon proposed and conducted a department wide audit of firearms, and is currently in charge of the Armory Group. Gordon has managed, organized and executed the use of TASERS within the department. Gordon was promoted to Lieutenant in 2013 on third shift. Gordon was promoted to Assistant
 
  Chief of Operations Bureau (Patrol) on May 21, 2014. Gordon attended the Senior Management Institute for Police in 2015 and he has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from William Woods University.

The promotion is effective Sunday, December 4, 2016. Deputy Chief Gordon will oversee the Operations Bureau, which includes all personnel assigned to patrol. This promotion eliminates one Assistant Chief position.

Deputy Chief Jill Schlude will continue to oversee the Administrative Support Bureau (Records, Training and Recruitment Unit) and the Operations Support Bureau (Investigations).
