Fire at Boone County Jail Damages Commercial Dryer
COLUMBIA, MO (October 4, 2016) - The Columbia Fire Department and the Boone County Fire Protection District were dispatched to a commercial structure fire at the Boone County Jail, 2121 County Drive East, at 10:54pm on Monday, October 3, 2016.
Boone County Fire Protection District personnel arrived first on the scene with no fire or smoke visible from the exterior. Employees directed them to the laundry facility where they observed light smoke and fire coming from a commercial dryer unit. Boone County Fire Protection District personnel performed a rapid fire attack using a preconnected hose line and extinguished the fire. One sprinkler head was activated prior to fire units arriving and assisted in containing the fire to that dryer unit.
Columbia Fire Department investigator Jim Pasley estimates damage at $4,000. The origin is a commercial dryer unit. Pasley stated that bedding material in the dryer unit overheated and ultimately ignited, causing the fire.
Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department and one unit from Boone County Fire Protection District responded to this event. Multiple law enforcement agencies also responded to this call. There were no reported injuries.
