Correction on CPD vehicle involved in a collision with a pedestrian

COLUMBIA, MO (September 9, 2016) - Yesterday, the Columbia Police Department issued a press release regarding a CPD vehicle being involved in a collision with a pedestrian on Paris Road/Route B and Brown Station Road. At the time of release the investigation was on-going and the information that had been provided was preliminary.

At 5:56 p.m. yesterday, the pedestrian involved in the incident, identified as Laura Harrison, e-mailed the CPD Public Relations Unit advising information that had been provided in the press release was inaccurate. Ms. Harrison reported she had not failed to yield to the crosswalk, as was reported in our press release. CPD command staff was notified and the investigation was taken over by a supervising Lieutenant.

After further investigation and review of dash cam video from Officer Wulff’s patrol car, the following was determined: Officer Wulff entered the intersection under a left turn yield on green light signal after being stopped at the intersection and began his left turn. At the same time the crosswalk light was lit to a solid white pedestrian figure which indicates “walk.” Approximately four (4) seconds later the crosswalk turned to a flashing red hand. All information gathered at this time indicates Ms. Harrison entered the crosswalk legally.

This investigation will be followed up on by a crash reconstructionist.
