Fire Damages Home on Morris Drive
COLUMBIA, MO (September 15, 2016) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 7:25pm. Units arrived less than five minutes later and observed smoke coming from one side of the duplex.
Using a preconnected hose line, fire crews performed an aggressive fire attack and contained the fire to the kitchen. The event was brought under control in less than five minutes.
Damage is estimated at $5,000. Assistant Fire Marshal Jim Pasley is conducting an origin and cause investigation. More details will be released as they become available.
Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call. There were no reported injuries.
The Columbia Fire Department reminds citizens that smoke alarms save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every ten years. To ensure adequate protection place smoke alarms in every sleeping room and in a common area on every floor.
