One injured in afternoon shooting
COLUMBIA, MO (September 16, 2016) - Today, at 3:53 p.m., officers were dispatched to I-70 westbound near mile marker 125, West Boulevard exit, in reference to shots fired. Multiple calls were received to Boone County Joint Communications referencing a subject being shot.
As officers arrived to the scene they located a vehicle on the side of I-70 with multiple bullet holes. They received information that a male victim, 18, was transported by a passerby to a local hospital. During the investigation, officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle that had been located on I-70. The occupants, a female, 17, and two males, 18, reported that as they were driving westbound on I-70 a second vehicle approached the side of their vehicle and began firing rounds at their vehicle. One of the rounds struck one occupant of the vehicle in the lower leg. The suspect vehicle proceeded to drive off. The vehicle the victim was in then pulled off to the side of the road and the occupants received a ride from a passerby to a local hospital. The gunshot wound victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital. The amount of property damage is unknown at this time. The investigation is on-going.
If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Columbia Police Department, or call CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
