Hands-on Parks volunteer programs return

COLUMBIA, MO (January 30, 2017) - The City of Columbia has two upcoming programs that provide residents knowledge about our natural resources and provide hands-on service projects in our parks. 

The Columbia Aquatic Restoration Project (CARP) classes will be held on Wednesday evenings, February 15 & 22, 6-9 p.m.  CARP is a volunteer program designed to support the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department in implementing an aquatic and shoreline management program.  Volunteers work on projects along streams, ponds and rain gardens in our parks on weekend mornings. 

The 2017 TreeKeepers program will be a one-day academy format on Saturday, March 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  During the TreeKeepers Academy, volunteers will learn about tree identification, pruning and planting and commit to assisting on tree projects in our parks on Saturday mornings. 

Both programs will be held at the Parks Management Center, 1507 Business Loop 70 West.  To learn more or to register, contact Volunteer Programs at 874-7499 or volunteer at CoMo.gov.
