THE SEARCH HAS BEGUN!
NOMINATE A NOTABLE COLUMBIA PROPERTY!
Columbia’s Historic Preservation Commission is taking nominations for
the City’s Most Notable Properties for the year 2012. The deadline for
submission is November 1, 2011.
Properties need to be at least 50 years old, located within the City of
Columbia corporate limits, and have architectural or historical
characteristics which contribute to our City’s social and/or aesthetic
resources. The properties may be endangered, derelict, recently
restored, or nicely maintained. They may be a private home, public or
private workplace or any other space, public or private. They may be
modest or grand, hidden away or in public view.
Once applications have been received, the Historic Preservation
Commission evaluates the nominations and selects a diverse set of
properties which they believe best represent the above qualities.
Submission materials can be downloaded by using the link on the City of
Columbia’s homepage at
www.gocolumbiamo.com/Planning/Commissions/HPC/index.php or by calling
the Department of Planning and Development at (573) 874-7239.
Applicants are encouraged to provide supporting information about the
structure or location such as newspaper articles, historic photos,
written histories of individuals who built, owned and/or lived in the
structure, and other relevant information. Please submit your
non-returnable materials either by mail or in person to City of Columbia
Planning and Development Department, Attention: Historic Preservation
Commission, 701 E. Broadway, P.O. Box 6015, Columbia 65205-6015.
Thank you for your participation in our annual Most Notable Historic
Properties event. Be sure to look for the announcement of the Historic
Preservation Commission’s “gala” event taking place in early 2012 to
honor the latest selections!
