INFORMATIONAL MEETING MINUTES
November 17, 2004

Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

Powerlifting will start in January 2005. Frances is working with the ARC's fitness director on setting up practices and workouts. The practices will be at least 3 times a week for one hour in the Youth Training Room at the ARC. In order for it to be beneficial for the athletes, they need to attend at least 2 practices a week.

In bowling, we asked for 40 spots but only are able to take 27 athletes to Joplin. Information packets should be mailed out by Monday, November 22nd.

The Thanksgiving Dance will be this Friday at the ARC. It is just a dance, no dinner this year. The dance in December will be cosponsored with People First. The cost will be $3.

Swimming registration will begin in December with practices starting in January. Advanced swimmers will start practice on January 13th and beginning swimmers will start practice on January 29th at the MU Natatorium.

The CPR/First Aid Recertification class has been set up for coaches. For those who coach 2 or more sports the cost of the training is $17.50. For coaches who only coach one sport the cost is $35. The class will be on Saturday, January 8th at the ARC from 9 a.m. to noon. Checks need to be made out to Columbia Parks & Recreation.

We will be going to St. Louis on December 18th to see Christmas lights. More information will be in December's newsletter.

Frances will be out of the office from November 24-28, 2004 and December 22-26, 2004.

In response to a request from parents, a calendar was passed out with the dates for events in 2005. The calendar is listed at the end of the minutes for those who were unable to attend the meeting.

Columbia Parks & Recreation is updating the hotline and Special Olympics will have their own cancellation line. As soon as Frances knows what the new number will be, she will let everyone know.

The Fundraising Committee will be meeting December 8th to discuss upcoming plans for the 2005 fundraisers. It was suggested each family donate 1 item for the silent auctions for next year's fundraisers.

David Hood was inducted into the Missouri Bowling Hall of Fame. His coaching experience with Special Olympics played an important role in his induction. Congratulations David.

There will be no meeting in December. There was discussion on changing the meetings for the future. It was suggested meeting quarterly may be more beneficial than monthly meetings. The next meeting will be March 16th.

Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
