Announcements
The End of Season Banquet for Softball and Golf has been rescheduled to
Sunday, August 21st at Oakland Shelter #3 from 12:30-2:30 p.m.
The deadline to register for bowling is August 25th. So far 50
athletes have registered to participate. If no payment arrangements are
made, the entire $50 is due on September 10th. If athletes are
splitting the payments, $25 is due on September 10th and $25 is due on
October 22nd. Boone County Family Resources will not be able to help
with payment of bowling, but scholarships are available through the
Parks Department and Voluntary Action Center. Call Frances before
August 25th to make arrangements.
Frances will be taking a more administrative role during the bowling
season and not attending practice every week. Annette King will be in
charge of the weekly practices this season. Any concerns or problems
that occur during practice need to be discussed with Annette.
There is an area bowling coach's meeting tomorrow, August 17th at the
ARC beginning at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in becoming certified as a
bowling coach will need to attend the sport specific training on
Wednesday, August 24th at the ARC beginning at 6:30 p.m. David and
Glenda Hood will be instructing the class.
The district dates for volleyball and soccer have been set. Volleyball
will be on Sunday, September 25th at Hickman High School and soccer will
be on Saturday, September 24th in St. Louis.
The monthly dance will be on Friday, August 21st. This will be a
fundraising dance to help the soldiers in Iraq. If participants bring
in toothbrushes, toothpaste or cotton swabs they will get into the dance
for $1, otherwise the cost is $2. We will also be celebrating
Frances' 40th birthday at that dance.
There are several adapted classes being offered this fall: Volleyball,
Mondays beginning September 12th from 6-7 p.m., basketball, Saturdays,
September 17th from 9-10 a.m., 4 sessions of weight training * one
each in September, October, November and December, art classes and
another Bingo night.
Frances will be on vacation from August 29th to September 9th. She
will return to the office on Monday, September 12th.
Fundraising Report
Bowl for Gold has been set for Saturday, October 8th at Town & Country
Lanes. There will be no bowling practice that day. We will also have
another raffle and silent auction. The money raised from Bowl for Gold
will go to help fun the costs for the Central Area athletes. This money
will not be used for National Games.
National Games * It will cost $20,000 to send the Central Area
athletes and coaches to National Games next July. We will be selling
mums at the Heritage Festival on September 17 & 18 from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. We will need the National Games athletes and parents of the
athletes to be present. Regan's Nursery has agreed to sell us the
mums for $4.50 and we will sell them for $6.50. We are working on
setting up pre-order sales as well. We will also collect donations at
Heritage Festival. We may also sell poinsettias around Christmas.
We are also looking into having a booth during the Twilight Festival in
September and June 2006. Frances will check into the details and into
getting information for the festival. Trish Wallace mentioned getting
the teachers involved for those athletes who are still in school.
Jim LaRue mentioned at a meeting a few months ago about Special
Olympics having a booth out at the Ice Chalet. He would donate the
space and everything that would be sold from the booth would go to help
us with program costs. He also mentioned having the athletes coming out
occasionally to straighten up the booth. It will be important to keep
new things in the booth if we decide to do this.
Questions/Comments
Trish would like the athletes to write a letter or sign a card to the
soldiers. Frances has a card the athletes can sign at the dance.
Jeanie said she had some priority shipping boxes she could give to Trish
to mail the items overseas.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
