FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Visioning committee ready to submit final vision report to ‘Imagine
Columbia’s Future’ Sponsors’ Council
(Columbia, Missouri) -- The “Imagine Columbia’s Future” visioning
committee has ratified the final vision report which includes the
committee’s own implementation supplement. Visioning Co-Chairs M.
Dianne Drainer and Dr. Jeffrey Williams will present the report to the
Sponsors’ Council, Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the City
Council Chambers at 701 E. Broadway.
Sponsors’ Council members include: Columbia College President Dr.
Gerald Brouder; Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Phyllis
Chase; University of Missouri Chancellor Dr. Brady Deaton; Stephens
College President Dr. Wendy Libby; Boone County Presiding Commissioner
Ken Pearson; Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman and City Manager Bill
Watkins.
According to Drainer, it is now the Sponsors’ Council’s turn to
review the vision plan. “Remember,” says Drainer, “they are
community leaders who kicked off the visioning process over a year ago.
It has truly been a citizen-centered and commendable process that has
come full circle.”
Once the Sponsors’ Council accepts the report, the vision plan will
be forwarded to the Columbia City Council. “Over 7,000 hours were put
into this process by community volunteers, and they are eager to see
visioning move into the implementation phase,” says Drainer.
Co-Chair Dr. Jeffrey Williams says the visioning committee put a great
deal of thought into their implementation supplement. “The vision plan
can impact every aspect of this community for the next 20 years,” says
Williams, “but turning vision into reality will require participation
and commitment by citizens from all walks of life as well as public,
private and governmental organizations.”
