Update 1 - Applications are being accepted for Columbia Vision
Commission

The City Clerk’s Office is accepting applications for the Columbia
Vision Commission. The purpose of this commission is to track, monitor
and assist with the implementation of the community visioning process by
conducting periodic reviews and issuing an annual report on the progress
of visioning implementation to the community. In addition, in the
future, this commission will recommend implementation tasks and other
public education and outreach programs.

The commission has two vacancies with terms to expire Dec. 15, 2013.
One must be a qualified voter residing within the city of Columbia, and
one must be a resident of Boone County not residing within the city
limits of Columbia. Candidates must have demonstrated a commitment to
the visioning process and will be evaluated on the ability to work with
data and understand systematic relationships; the ability to work
collaboratively; management skills; independence; existing memberships
or positions; and contributions to the diversity of the commission.

Citizens and organizations may nominate candidates for the commission
by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk at GoColumbiaMo.com or
(573) 874-7207 and providing contact information for the person they
would like to nominate. Those nominated will be contacted and asked to
submit an application. Nominations must be received by noon on
Wednesday, April 1, to allow time for that person to complete and submit
the application by its corresponding deadline date.

Self-nominations will be acceptable as well. An application form can be
completed and submitted directly to the City Clerk’s Office for
self-nominations. Applications can be obtained at the City Clerk’s
Office or can be found on the city’s Web site:
http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Council/Commissions/vacancies.php.
Applications must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office, 701 E.
Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday, April 3.

The city ordinance creating the Vision Commission may be viewed online

Update 2 - Public comment period for the draft Vision Implementation
Report runs through
next February - 5 p.m., March 27, 2009.

During its Feb. 16 meeting, City Council approved a request by the
Columbia Vision Commission (CVC) to extend the public comment period on
the draft Vision Implementation Report from Feb. 27 to March 27.

The draft implementation report includes an inventory of existing
efforts, an inventory of new resources needed to accomplish identified
goals, groupings of goals and strategies and the identification of
organizations and entities that could be involved in implementation.

Public input on the community resources inventory is particularly
important. If you know of projects, organizations or resources that
aren’t in the current draft, we need to hear about them. Likewise, if
you have a passion for a specific issue, we need to hear from you. By
working together, we can turn vision goals into community
accomplishments.

Update 3 - Public Communications Resource Advisory Committee Update

The Governance and Decision Making Vision Statement reads: "Columbia's
governance is a model of transparency, efficiency, and citizen
participation that enjoys the strong confidence of its residents."
(Final Vision Report, page 82)

In that spirit, the City's Public Communications Resource Advisory
Committee is seeking applicants for public communication funds that can
be used to expand or enhance communication among citizens and City
officials on issues of importance to the community.

A workshop for applicants interested in public communications resource
funding will be held on Thursday, March 26, 4 -6 p.m., in the City Hall
Mezzanine Conference Room, 701 E. Broadway.

This is the second year that the City has funded a partnership with
other public communication service providers to expand or enhance
communication among citizens and City officials on issues of importance
to the community.

Project funding, ranging from $1,000 to $20,000, is available to the
following types of eligible applicants:
1) single not-for-profit entities, government agencies or educational
institutions;
2) a partnership of public communication-type entities; or
3) partnerships of a single public communications entity and other
related entities such as schools, social service agencies, libraries,
museums, etc.

The application package is available on the city’s Web site at
www.GoColumbiaMo.com and at the City Manager’s Office, 5th floor,
Daniel Boone Building, 701 W. Broadway.

About the public communication resource funds

This is not a grant, as all funds must be contracted for communication
services. The funds are generated through monthly fees paid by video
service providers to the City of Columbia, as authorized by city
ordinance. A seven-member Public Communications Resource Advisory
Committee (PCRAC), which was appointed by the City Council, will
coordinate an open, competitive process to solicit applications and
recommend funding levels
to the City Council.

Completed applications must be received in the City Manager’s Office
by 5 p.m. on May 1, 2009. Communication services must be provided
within the City’s corporate limits during the project period
October 1, 2009 - December 31, 2010.
