Connecting the Vision:

Preservation was a common theme in the Imagine Columbia's Future Vision Report.

The Development Citizen Topic Group outlined a strategy that as our community grows we "should preserve our heritage and uniqueness."

The Community Character Citizen Topic group stated a goal that Columbia's "historic areas will be identified, valued and preserved."

The Downtown Citizen Topic Group proposed that Columbia "create an enhanced economic strategy that acknowledges the link between economic prosperity and the central city, promoting Columbia as a cultural, business, entertainment and educational center."

John William ‘Blind’ Boone Heritage Foundation Prepares to Unveil New Sculpture

Columbia, MO-September 27, 2010

A new sculpture by renowned artist Harry Weber is set to be unveiled during a reception hosted by the J.W. ‘Blind’ Boone Heritage Foundation on October 11, 2010 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Reynolds Alumni Center on the University of Missouri campus. This sculpture, commissioned by the Heritage Foundation, will reside on a pedestal in the Tribute Garden on the grounds of the ‘Blind’ Boone home.

The grounds of the Boone home will feature a “Merit, not Sympathy, Wins” Tribute garden and amphitheater. The garden will also provide a suitable setting for outdoor performances and recitals. A highlight of this garden will be the sculpture created by Weber. The garden will also feature pavers with engraved tributes to individuals who, like Boone, have overcome challenges in their lives or inspired others.

Weber, whose bronze sculptures have won major awards at national juried competitions, embodies the ability to bring alive his subjects with the fluid power and spontaneity shown in his 100 major and 200 smaller works.
Weber’s work appears at the Museum of Fine Arts in Newport, Rhode Island, in the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, and in the National Dog Museum. A twice-life-size monument of Lewis and Clark on the St Louis waterfront, commemorating the bicentennial of the expedition, has been designated a National Lewis and Clark site by the Federal Parks Department.

For ticket information regarding the reception, please contact Terra Crane at TKCrane at gocolumbiamo.com.
If you would like additional information on this project or on the restoration efforts, contact Clyde Ruffin, chair of the J.W. ‘Blind’ Boone Heritage Foundation, at RuffinC at Missouri.edu.
