Parks and Recreation Holiday Events

Santa's Drop and Shop (You can still register!)
Saturday, December 6, 6-9 pm
$12 first child, $10 additional children 
Drop your children (6-10 yrs) off at the ARC for some Christmas crafts,
swimming, movies, and food while you do your holiday shopping. You may
drop off and pick up your child at anytime during this event. Limited
space available. Pre-registration is required.

Christmas at Maplewood
Sunday, December 7, 1-4 pm, Nifong Park 
The Walter's Boone County Historical Museum and the Columbia Parks &
Recreation Department invite you to celebrate "Christmas Past" at
the historical Maplewood Home. Guides dressed in 19th century attire
will escort guests through decorated halls sharing the memoirs of Dr.
Frank Nifong and Mrs. Lavinia Lenoir Nifong. Delightful memories,
entertainment and holiday refreshments promise to make this a Christmas
to remember. For more information and the make your reservation, please
call the Walter's Boone County Historical Museum at (573) 443-8936.

Santa Hotline
Saturday, December 13
Children between the ages of 3-10 can call the North Pole from 8 am to
8 pm. Children will have the opportunity to speak with Santa or Mrs.
Claus or one the many elves and personally give them their Christmas
lists. Call any of the following phone numbers ONLY on Saturday,
December 13: 874-7473, 499-0916, 874-6335.  

2003 Holiday Lighting Contest
Registration deadline - Friday, December 19
Judging - December 20-22
It's time to begin thinking about decorating your home for the
Holiday season! Once you have completed your decorating, you have one
thing left to do - enter the 2003 Holiday Lighting Contest. The contest
is open to all Columbia residents. Prizes are awarded based on
originality, artistic quality, use of material, creative use of space,
and aesthetics. Since entry is FREE, everyone should have fun entering.
To enter, call 874-7460. Reminder, 2002 winners are not eligible to
enter this year's contest, but are more than welcome to enter in
2004.

Holiday Lights and Sights Tours
Monday, December 22, 7:45-9 pm
$5 for adults, $3 for children 12-under 
Tour Columbia's best decorated yards and neighborhoods from the
comfort of Parks and Recreation's mini busses. Tours begin at the ARC.
Register by Wednesday, December 17. 

Call 874-7460 for more information or to register. Registrations are
also accepted at the Parks and Recreation office at 1 S. 7th Street.
