Old Time Square Dances
COLUMBIA, MO (April 8, 2004) -- Parks & Recreation and The Missouri
Traditional Fiddle and Dance Network are bringing old-time square dances
to Columbia. Old Time Square Dances will be held the 4th Saturday of
each month. The first dance will be held on Saturday, April 24, at the
ARC, 1701 W. Ash St. The jam session will be from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. and
dances will begin at 7 p.m. Dance instruction is available beginning at
7 p.m. Children are welcome with adult accompaniment.
The Missouri Traditional Fiddle and Dance Network is dedicated to the
perpetuation of old-time fiddle music and dance. Traditional musicians
are invited to a traditional jam session. An evening of old-time
Missouri square dance designed for the entire family will follow.
Callers will walk participants through each step before the dancing
begins. Billy Lee, well-known fiddler, entertainer and luthier, will be
fiddling for the dances with Jordan Wax on back-up. Callers will be
Steve Young or Jim Thaxter.
Tickets available at the door. Adults: $6, 7-17 years: $3, Children 6 &
under and Jammers: Free.
