Columbia Transit named '2003 Transit Agency Of The Year'

	(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia, Mo is on the Go with Columbia
Transit, so much so that the city's bus system won a regional award
for increased ridership. Columbia Transit was named "2003 Transit Agency
of the Year" for Region VII of the Federal Transportation
Administration, which includes Missouri, Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska.  
	Ridership in Columbia was up 12 percent and the award was based
upon Columbia' s ridership increase over the preceding year. The
increase experienced by Columbia Transit bucks a downward national trend
in transit use. 
	Columbia Transit's Transportation Manager Ken Koopmans noted,
"Over the past several years, Columbia Transit has worked very hard to
improve its equipment, its routes and its customer service. We are very
pleased to have received this award for the most increased ridership in
the past year, because we feel that it is a validation of our efforts
and that the public is recognizing that effort by its increased
patronage."
	In 2003, more than 496,000 people rode Columbia Transit.
