Columbia/Boone County Health Department to hold blood drive on Dec. 2

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Last year, 28,000 individuals in the area
needed a blood transfusion. This year, the local needs for blood are
expected to rise. The Community Blood Center, provider of blood services
to local hospitals, will conduct a blood drive on Thursday, Dec. 2, at
the Columbia/Boone County Health Department from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Blood
collected at the drive will help local hospital patients who depend on
life-saving blood donations.
"The services provided by the Community Blood Center are
essential to the needs of local patients and we are excited to be a part
of what they offer our community," said Stephanie Browning, director
of the Columbia/Boone County Health Department. "Our new expanded
facility allows us to better serve this type of public health need."
The Health Department is located in the Sanford-Kimpton Building
at 1005 West Worley St. All participants will be provided with a free
T-shirt and a complimentary total cholesterol screening. Walk-ins are
welcome but appointments can also be made by calling (573) 874-7345.
Just one donation can help as many as three local hospital
patients. Community Blood Center must collect at least 550 pints of
blood every day to meet the needs of our area.
