Council Representative Crayton 'walks to school' December 10
(COLUMBIA, MO) - West Boulevard Elementary School students and
parents are encouraged to walk or bike to and from school on "Walk to
School Day" Friday, Dec. 10.
First Ward Council Representative Almeta Crayton will accompany
a group of children, parents and teachers on a walk to school that
morning. Not only did Crayton's son attend West Boulevard, but she
also held the title of playground supervisor at the school. Crayton has
been known to keep the welfare of the young people in her ward as a top
priority. This is just another way she is doing so.
The walk will start from the "staging post" in the parking lot of
the Activity & Recreation Center (ARC). This "staging post" will be
set up for students who do not live close enough to school to walk from
their homes. The group will meet in the parking lot at 8 a.m. and will
set off walking to school shortly thereafter.
This event is held in conjunction with the Active Living By
Design project of the PedNet Coalition. The project seeks to increase
physical activity among Columbia residents through programming and by
addressing environmental and policy barriers to physical activity.
