Boards and commissions applications are available

	(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
July 9, 2004. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may
be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:

The Bicycle/Pedestrian Commission has four vacancies with two terms
(one bike and one pedestrian) expiring July 31, 2007 and two terms
(bike) expiring July 31, 2006. Members must have knowledge of bicycling
and/or bicycle safety and/or bikeways or have an interest in pedestrian
safety and infrastructure. Members must also be registered voters of the
city. Monthly meetings are the third Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Building Construction Codes Commission has eight vacancies with
terms to expire Aug. 1, 2007. Two members (one regular and one alternate
to serve in the absence of a regular member) are needed from each of the
following four categories: residential landlord, professional engineer
(structural/civil), professional engineer (electrical/mechanical) and
master plumber. Members must be registered voters. Monthly meetings are
on call.

The Board of Electrical Examiners has three vacancies with terms to
expire Aug. 1, 2007. One member must be a registered professional
engineer; one must be a licensed electrician; and one must be a
layperson. All must be registered voters. Meetings are called by the
chair, as needed.

The Energy and Environment Commission has one vacancy with the term to
expire June 1, 2007. The member must be a resident of the city, as well
as a registered voter, and should have knowledge in matters pertaining
to environmental protection. Monthly meetings are the fourth Tuesday at
7 p.m. 

The Board of Health has one vacancy with the term to expire Aug. 31,
2005. The member must be a dentist and a registered voter of the city.
Monthly meetings are called by the board.

The Human Rights Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire
March 1, 2006. The member shall have demonstrated a strong commitment to
human rights and a belief in the principles of equal opportunity
embodied in this ordinance. Members advise the City Council on human
rights issues and review and make decisions regarding complaints of
discrimination filed with the city of Columbia. Monthly meetings are the
fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Railroad Advisory Board has two vacancies with terms to expire July
15, 2008. Members shall have knowledge and interest in either railroad,
shipping, transportation or business, and shall be sympathetic with the
principle of municipal ownership and operation of branch line railroads.
Monthly meetings are the second Thursday at 7:30 a.m.
