Mayor's Challenge: Bike, Walk and Wheel Week kicks off May 9

	(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Third Annual Mayor's Challenge: Bike, Walk
and Wheel Week starts on Sunday, May 9, at the ARC with Cycle-Recycle
and a community bike ride. Anyone who needs a free, reconditioned,
second-hand bike should arrive at 
1 p.m. to register. 
	More than 100 children's and adults' bikes will be given away
by the PedNet Coalition. Free bike helmets will be distributed by the
SAFE KIDS Coalition. At 2 p.m., Bike, Walk and Wheel Week will be
formally opened with comments from Coordinator Judy Knudson, Mayor
Darwin  Hindman and honorary chair - Representative Kenny Hulshof. At
2:45 pm, after the bike giveaway, there will be a 4-mile community bike
ride. (All riders must wear helmets and those under age 16 must be
accompanied by an adult).
	Participants in Bike, Walk and Wheel Week pledge to use active 
transportation for some journeys or part-journeys during the week of May
