Boards and commissions applications are available

	(COLUMBIA, MO) -- The Columbia city clerk is accepting
applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received
by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday,
June 4, 2004. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may
be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City
Council page. The following are current boards and commissions
openings:

The Board of Health has one vacancy with the term to expire Aug. 31,
2005. The member must be a dentist, as well as a registered voter of the
city. Monthly meetings are called by the board.  

The Disabilities Commission has four vacancies with terms to expire
June 15, 2007. Two members must have a significant disability as defined
by the Americans With Disabilities Act and two must have a particular
knowledge or experience providing services to individuals with
disabilities or an interest in the welfare of city residents with
disabilities. All members must be residents of the city. Monthly
meetings are the second Thursday at 3 p.m.

The Cultural Affairs Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire
April 1, 2005. The member must be a layperson and a city resident and
must not serve on the board of directors or be employed by any private
agency which applies for funding through the commission or which
receives funding upon recommendation of the commission. Monthly meetings
are the second Monday at 4:15 p.m.

The Cultural Affairs Standing Committee On Public Art has one vacancy
with the term to expire July 1, 2007. The member must be an artist.

The Energy and Environment Commission has one vacancy with the term to
expire June 1, 2007. The member must be a resident of the city, as well
as a registered voter, and should have knowledge in matters pertaining
to environmental protection. Monthly meetings are the fourth Tuesday at
7 p.m. 

The Health Insurance Appeals Board has one vacancy with the term to
expire Feb. 16, 2007. The member must have substantive professional
experience in benefits administration for a large organization.

The Historic Preservation Commission has one vacancy with the term to
expire Sept. 1, 2006. The member must be a layperson active in historic
preservation. Monthly meetings are the first Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Library Board of Directors has three vacancies with terms to expire
June 30, 2007. Members, who are appointed by the mayor, must reside
within the Library District. Duties include appointing the librarian and
overseeing expenditures of library fund monies.

The Board of Mechanical Examiners has one vacancy with the term to
expire June 17, 2007. The member must be a layperson. The board is
empowered to give examinations for mechanical heating, ventilation, air
conditioning and refrigeration licenses and certificates. Meetings are
on call.

The Substance Abuse Advisory Commission has one vacancy with the term
to expire Oct. 31, 2005. The member must have demonstrated an interest
in and concern for substance and alcohol abuse problems in the
community.

The Water & Light Advisory Board has one vacancy with the term to
expire June 30, 2008. The member must be a qualified voter and resident
of the city at least one year prior to appointment. The board advises on
matters pertaining to operations of the Water & Light system. Monthly
meetings are on call.
