City's festival poster wins national recognition
COLUMBIA, MO (November 29, 2004) -- The International Festivals and
Events Association (IFEA) paid tribute to the city of Columbia's Office
of Cultural Affairs (OCA) earlier this month by selecting the OCA as the
recipient of a "Gold Pinnacle Award" in its Best Commemorative Poster
category.
The professional competition drew nearly 1,500 entries this year and a
record number of participating organizations from among the world's top
festivals and events. The IFEA's Pinnacle Awards recognize the highest
levels of quality and creativity in festivals and special events.
Artist Mark Langeneckert's painting, titled "Logic/Feeling," is the
image reproduced in the city's 2003 Commemorative Poster. The original
work was created by Langeneckert as a homage to his father's
encouragement and support of his artistic career. Langeneckert is
currently on faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia's Department
of Fine Arts.
This is the second time a Columbia Festival of the Arts Commemorative
Poster has been honored by IFEA. The city's 2000 Commemorative Poster
received a "Gold Pinnacle Award", as well.
Visual art is featured on the OCA's Commemorative Poster each year. As
the central image of the Columbia Festival of the Arts, the poster
communicates the vitality of the event as well as the beauty of mid
Missouri and the significance of the arts. The "Logic/Feeling"
Commemorative Poster is available for purchase at the OCA, 13 N. 8th
Street, or Deck the Walls in the Columbia Mall. Commemorative Posters
from 1992 to 2004 are also available at both locations.
The Columbia Festival of the Arts and the Commemorative Poster are
programs of the city's Office of Cultural Affairs. Financial assistance
for both projects has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a
state agency. The 2003 Commemorative Poster was sponsored by Deck the
Walls and the Columbia Daily Tribune.
