City manager, city clerk perform extremely well

COLUMBIA, MO (October 26, 2004) -- Mayor Darwin Hindman announced today
that the council met in closed session last night, as permitted by the
open meetings law, and held its annual review of Raymond A. Beck, city
manager and Sheela Amin, city clerk. The council agreed that both had
performed extremely well during the past year.

The council determined that Ms. Amin, who began her duties last year,
had satisfactorily completed her required 12-month probation period and
praised her for the way she adjusted to the job. She has shown
particular strength in records management and dealing with the public.
The council awarded her the maximum 4 percent merit increase in addition
to the automatic 3.5 percent cost of living increase. 

"This raise results from the excellence of her job performance and her
successful completion of probation," Hindman said. "Ms. Amin has
been in the lower part of her bracket and the 4 percent merit increase
puts her more nearly where she should be." 

Ms. Amin's salary will be $43,056.

Mr. Beck, who has been city manager for 19 years, is the highest paid
staff member of the city. 

"The council was extremely pleased with Mr. Beck's performance and
Columbia is fortunate to have Mr. Beck as city manager," Hindman said.


The council voted unanimously to award Beck a 3 percent merit increase,
which is in addition to the 3.5 percente cost of living increase. 

"The council understands that this well-deserved raise will be the
largest salary increase in dollars for any member of the city staff,"
Hindman said. 

After the increase, Mr. Beck will earn $137,425 annually.
