Master Gardeners tour city's compost facility
(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Saturday, Sept. 25, 40 members from Master
Gardeners were in Columbia for a statewide conference and toured the
city's compost and recycling facilities. Each member received a sample
bag of compost for personal use. More than 240 cubic yards of compost
was sold to the general public that week. Interest and demand for
compost continues to grow as more Columbians are taking advantages of
compost as a soil amendment.
Compost may be purchased on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The
facility will also be open on these Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon for
compost sales: Oct. 2, Oct. 23, and Nov. 6. A loader will be on site to
assist.
The fee for one cubic yard is $12 plus tax. A minimum fee of $12
plus tax is required. For quantities greater than 100 cubic yards
purchased in one calendar month, the discount fee is $8 plus tax.
Appointments may be scheduled for loads of 10 cubic yards or more
anytime during the week. For more information, call 474-9145.
