Boards and commissions applications are available
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia city clerk is accepting applications for boards and commissions. Applications must be received by the clerk's office, 701 E. Broadway, 4th Floor, by noon on Friday, April 8. Applications are available at the clerk's office or may be found on the city's Web site at www.GoColumbiaMo.com on the City Council page. The following are current boards and commissions openings:
* The Board of Adjustment has one vacancy with the term to expire May 1, 2010. The board is responsible for hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the zoning, planning and subdividing ordinances. Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
* The Board of Adjustment (Alternate) has one vacancy for an alternate with the term to expire Nov. 1, 2007. Alternates are asked to serve in the absence of regular members. Members are responsible for hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the zoning,planning and subdividing ordinances. Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday at 7 p.m.
* The Airport Advisory Board has two vacancies with terms to expire May 16, 2009. Members shall be registered voters of the city and be familiar with the subject of aviation. Monthly meetings are the first Wednesday following the first Monday of the month, noon at the airport.
* The Cable Television Task Force has two vacancies to be appointed by the mayor. Members are charged with reviewing issues related to franchise renewals of cable television franchises and issues related to the operation of public access channels by both cable companies.
* The Cultural Affairs Commisson has one vacancy with the term to expire April 1, 2008. The member may be from any of the following categories: business and professional community, a person possessing significant knowledge and demonstrated interest in one or more areas of the arts, a person involved in elementary or secondary education or a layperson. The member must be a registered voter and city resident. Due to ward restrictions, applications from Ward 4 and Ward 5 cannot be accepted at this time.
* The Energy & Environment Commission has one vacancy with the term to expire June 1, 2006. The member must be a resident of the city, as well as a registered voter, and should have knowledge in matters pertaining to environmental protection. Monthly meetings are the fourth Tuesday at 7 p.m.
* The Mayor's Physical Fitness & Health Committee has two vacancies to be appointed by the mayor. The committee shall educate the public about the importance of regular physical activity and promote, initiate and encourage local physical fitness and sports programs in the community.
