'Recyclebration' - Columbia Festival of the Arts
(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Public Works Volunteer Program
will promote art projects constructed out of recyclable (reusable)
materials at the Columbia Festival of the Arts scheduled for Sept.
24-25.
Residents are asked to help with this project by collecting
materials that you, your family and friends would normally recycle or
throw away. The following items are needed: colorful greeting cards,
paper, or calendars; flower catalogs, nature and art magazines; blank
leftover address labels (those last few on the last sheet); plastic
6-pack rings from soft drinks; fabric and felt scraps; ribbon, yarn,
lace or beads; other unwanted craft items; and unwanted CDs.
These items will be used by children and need to be clean with
no sharp edges. Items can be dropped off at the Grissum Building, 1313
Lakeview (one block west of the city power plant and one block north of
the Business Loop), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please place
items in a bag or box for easier handling. The last day for collection
of these items will be Thursday, Sept. 22.
"There is a long history of artists using scrap materials in
their work. We hope the public will help us provide scrap materials for
artists of all ages coming to the festival. These materials will be
turned into art masterpieces and saved from a trip to the landfill,"
said Christine Gardener, organizer of the Recyclebration project.
If you have questions, please contact the Public Works Volunteer
Program at 874-6271. Thank you for your interest and support of this
Recyclebration project.
