Intentionally set fire damages central Columbia business
COLUMBIA, MO (August 12, 2005) -- The Columbia Fire Departments
responded to a report of a fire at 722 East Sexton Road in central
Columbia at 9:44 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11. Firefighters arrived to find
a commercial building involved in fire. Firefighters used a master
stream to quickly knock down the fire and several hand lines to fully
extinguish the fire in less then five minutes.
Fire investigators found that the building was undergoing renovation
and the area the fire began in was an interior room. Damage to the
building and contents is estimated between $10-20,000. A vehicle parked
in the parking lot was also the target of the arsonist but minimal
damage occurred to the truck. The building is owned by Daniel Miller and
the vehicle is owned by J&T construction, the company hired to complete
the building remodeling.
Fire investigators have ruled the fires as incendiary in nature.
Columbia Police are assisting the Columbia Fire Marshal's Division with
the investigation. Investigators do not believe the fire on Mills Drive
on Aug. 10 is connected with this latest incendiary fire.
Anyone with any information concerning this fire is asked to contact
the Columbia Fire Department at 573-874-7556 or Crimestoppers at
573-875-TIPS (8477).
