Hunter orientation, registration sessions begin soon

COLUMBIA, MO (August 25, 2005) -- The city will conduct three free
public hunter orientation/registration sessions for those citizens who
are interested in bow hunting for deer on designated city properties.

Bow hunting opportunities are available on the following properties:
Grindstone Nature Area, the Sanitary Landfill, the Sewer Utility
property along Perche Creek at Strawn Road and a portion of Twin Lakes
Recreation Area, the Smith property at Waco Road and Brown Station Road,
and two locations at the wastewater treatment plant - one on Coats Lane
and the other at the end of Bainbridge Drive. Maps will be available at
the orientation/registration sessions.

The orientation/registration sessions are as follows.
Saturday, Aug. 27, at 8:30 a.m., Activity and Recreation Center
Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 3 p.m., Activity and Recreation Center
Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m., Activity and Recreation Center

Last year, more than 170 potential hunters attended one of two
sessions. This year, the city added a Saturday session as requested by
deer hunters.

In order to hunt on one of the seven locations, hunters must attend one
of the three sessions, that will last about one hour. City permits will
be distributed only at these meetings.

Additionally, hunters must fulfill the requirements of the Department
of Conservation.

For more information, contact Bill Watkins, assistant city manager, at
874-7214.
