First Night Columbia - New Year's Eve celebration

In The District & Stephen's College Campus in Columbia, Mo.
December 31, 2005

Food Court opens at 5 p.m. at Stamper Commons. Doors open at 6 p.m. 
Entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m.

COLUMBIA, MO (December 6, 2005) -- Catch First Night Fever -
mid-Missouri's premiere New Year's Eve event! Celebrate with family
& friends at this unique and innovative public celebration that marks
the passage of time through the arts. Entertainment includes more than
60 performances, activities and art at 14 locations in downtown Columbia
and on the Stephens College campus. 

Event-goers will travel from one location to the next enjoying great
entertainment such as jazz, dueling pianos, western swing, dancing
(old-time, Irish, Cajun, swing, Flamenco), rock, children's
performers, bluegrass, Irish, storytelling, rhythm & blues, spoken word,
fiddling, theatre, magic, Japanese puppetry and Taiko drumming. A venue
is planned just for teens!

Make a mask, crown or noisemaker at the Children's Art Area,
participate in the 5K Run/Walk at 4 p.m., carry a giant puppet or shake
a noisemaker in the processions, or ride on a carriage through beautiful
downtown Columbia.

A children's procession at 9:15 p.m. will end with a bubble wrap stomp
and fireworks display. At 11:30 p.m., two people's processions will
lead revelers to the finale at the Boone County Courthouse Square with
Taiko drumming, a pyroball countdown and spectacular fireworks at
midnight.

Stephens College.
